Deryck Lewis is a UK-born photographer currently practicing in Toronto. He works primarily within black and white fully analog processes. Embracing imperfection, his modified film cameras distort and blur, movement and light forming shadows to create an impressionistic narrative. By stretching time through long exposures, he reveals a stark, elemental landscape, of unseen worlds full of tension and mystery inspired by folklore and childhood memories.
The Arges series is an ongoing project that explores the relationship between the physical landscape and childhood memories. Shot using 1950’s Kodak Brownie cameras with a flipped lens, the distorted effect creates a painterly quality, adding a sense of timelessness to each image.
